The bus. Xplore's X90 service from Dundee to Edinburgh Airport runs roughly every two hours from early morning to mid-evening. Ember runs a similar service. Both are around £15-£20 single, take 90 minutes door-to-door if you walk to the city-centre stop, and stop at midnight. They work for single travellers with light luggage on daytime departures. They do not work for 4am flights, three passengers with cases, or returns landing after 11pm.

The train. There is no direct rail link from Dundee to any Scottish airport. Edinburgh Airport requires a change at Edinburgh Waverley and the airport tram, which adds 40 minutes and means dragging luggage across the city centre. Glasgow Airport requires two changes. The train works for unhurried daytime trips with one bag.

Drive and park. Long-stay parking at Edinburgh Airport runs £12-£18 a day depending on how far in advance you book. Two weeks of holiday parking is £170-£250 plus the M90 fuel both ways. For a two-week family holiday, drive-and-park is usually more expensive than two fixed-price transfers.

A favour from a friend or family. Fine for daytime, awkward at 4am, and you owe the favour back. If the flight delays, that person is sitting at the airport waiting on your behalf at midnight.

A private transfer. A fixed-price door-to-door run in a single vehicle. The cost sits between drive-and-park and a budget taxi. It wins on early flights, late returns, multi-passenger trips, family travel with luggage, and any journey where the flight time or the day-of-travel conditions matter more than saving £20.

1. The quote. Call, email or fill in the form. We come back with a fixed price — usually within the hour during daytime, by first thing the next morning if you ask overnight. The quote covers a specific pickup town, drop airport, date and time.

2. The booking. A reply confirms the price, the pickup time and the meeting point. For airport-bound runs that means a specific door at a specific minute. For inbound runs from the airport, the pickup links to your flight number.

3. The night-before check. For early-morning departures, you get a brief reminder the evening before with the driver's mobile number. If snow is forecast or overnight roadworks news, the pickup might move 10-15 minutes earlier. We tell you when, not on the doorstep.

4. The drive. The Mercedes GLE pulls up at the agreed minute. Luggage in the boot. The driver knows which terminal entrance is fastest at that time of day. The route is planned around current roadworks rather than the satnav default.

5. The settle. Payment by card, bank transfer or cash on arrival — your choice, agreed at booking. No card-machine fees, no app surcharge, no waiting-time supplement. The quoted figure is the figure.

For return journeys the pickup links to your flight number. If you land 90 minutes late, the car is in the pickup zone when you clear customs. Return-leg booking made at the same time as the outbound usually saves around 10% versus two one-way bookings.

The Tayside-to-airport runs have local conditions that a Glasgow-dispatched cab firm does not factor in.

A90 northbound is straightforward in winter, slow in summer when caravans head for Royal Deeside. Stonehaven roadworks add 15-30 minutes when they reappear.

A90 southbound and the Queensferry Crossing is the variable for every Edinburgh-bound run. Peak commuter traffic runs 7:30-9:30am and 4:30-6:30pm — we add buffer to any pickup that crosses the bridge in those windows.

The M90 from Perth is mostly fine but the airport approach via the A8000 backs up from 6:30am.

The M80 around Stirling and Cumbernauld is the Glasgow-route variable. Roadworks are common, the Cumbernauld stretch backs up at shift-change times.
