Aberdeen Airport is small compared with Edinburgh and Glasgow, but it carries flight networks the others do not — the Norway and Stavanger routes for the oil and gas trade, the London City connection for the corporate weekday, the daily Amsterdam KLM for the long-haul transfer. The fixed-price Dundee to Aberdeen Airport transfer covers the A90 north reliably, whatever the tractor traffic in summer does to the satnav estimate.
When the Dundee to Aberdeen Airport Transfer Makes Sense
Train to Aberdeen, then bus or taxi to Dyce. The ScotRail service takes 70-75 minutes, then 25-35 minutes more to get from Aberdeen station out to the airport. Total 2 hours 15 minutes minimum, £20-£40 in train fares plus the airport connection. Works for unhurried daytime trips. The 6am London City connection is past the first realistic train arrival.
Stagecoach 39A or X42 to Aberdeen, then airport bus. Bus to Aberdeen takes 2 hours 10 minutes, then add the airport connection. Cheap (£15-£25 total) but slow, and you cannot reasonably make the first morning connection from Dyce.
Drive and park. Aberdeen Airport long-stay is £8-£12 a day. A week is £60-£90 plus the A90 fuel. For a single passenger this beats the transfer on price. For two or more it is usually within £20 either way. The other consideration is the A90 in winter for an offshore-trade four-week rotation.
Ensom's fixed-price Dundee to Aberdeen Airport transfer. Wins on offshore-worker rotations (the four-week shift means leaving the car at Aberdeen Airport for the full month is genuinely expensive), on the early-morning Norway departures, on family visits to offshore-worker relatives, and on the corporate weekday to London City. The journey is flight-tracked on the return.
The Variants of the Aberdeen Run
Early-morning departure. Pickup 3:30am-5:30am from Dundee for the 5:30am-7am departures — the Aberdeen-to-Stavanger Norway run, the early Amsterdam KLM, the 7am London City. Quiet A90 at that hour. Journey 75 minutes terminal-to-terminal.
Day-time departure. Pickup 7am-3pm. Slower because of the Forfar bypass commuter traffic and the Stonehaven roadworks pattern (when they reappear). 80-90 minutes typical.
Evening departure. Pickup 4pm-8pm for the European short-haul connections and the evening London City return. The Stonehaven approach is the variable.
Offshore-rotation booking. A specific subset — pickup for the helicopter shuttle to the Norwegian sector or the rig flights. Most-booked variant for the offshore trade.
Return-journey booking. Both legs together, 10% cheaper than separate bookings. Return-leg pickup linked to the inbound flight.
We also run Dundee to Edinburgh Airport and Dundee to Glasgow Airport for routes that work better through those airports.
For Dundee Flyers Heading North, Specifically
The Dundee-to-Aberdeen-Airport run has three local variables.
Tractor and farm traffic on the A90 north of Forfar is the summer variable. May to September, slow stretches behind agricultural vehicles add 10-20 minutes. We add buffer to any pickup in the summer months.
The Stonehaven roadworks pattern is the recurring autumn variable. Lane restrictions on the A90 south of Aberdeen add 15-30 minutes when they reappear (usually April through September). We track the pattern and rebook timings accordingly.
The Aberdeen Airport (Dyce) entry road does not back up the way Edinburgh or Glasgow do. Drop-offs scheduled for 7am are reliable without buffer.
Pickup points covered: any Dundee postcode (Broughty Ferry, the West End, Barnhill, Camperdown) and surrounding towns (Monifieth, Carnoustie, Arbroath, Forfar, Kirriemuir). Pickups beyond Forfar (Brechin, Montrose) sit on the route and add 10-15 minutes to the Dundee-centre timing.
